Blink, like so many other small businesses across the country is closed. Being that I primarily work with pregnant mommas and newborns, in my home studio I have to be extra careful. When I do reopen I can assure you so will be doing everything possible to keep your family as well as my own safe, but that time does not look like it will be anytime soon. Chances are you have heard of The Front Porch Project. I can not tell you who started it, as it has taken on a life of its own and photographers across the country have been participating. The idea was to document how families across the nation were dealing with the current crisis by taking pictures of families on their front porch, from safe distance of course. Some families chose to be funny, some serious and some just used the opportunity to take a nice family photo while donating to a worthy cause. If you get a chance look it up and see what families are doing all over the country.
My grandmother lives three hours away, alone, she truly values her independence. She can no longer drive and she is amongst those most vulnerable to Covid-19. Luckily through family members and a lot of Instacart orders we have been able to keep her fairly stocked up on groceries, but others aren’t as lucky. The Meals on Wheels program provides such an important service to our most vulnerable neighbors that depend on the service for their most basic needs.
Inspired by The Front Porch Project and my own stubborn yet loved grandmother I decided to raise funds for The Meals on Wheels program of Cabarrus County. For just $25 MOW provides shelf stable meal boxes that hold 10 meals for needy seniors. I am proud to report that my neighbors from The Mills at Rocky River neighborhood stepped up. I learned quite a bit white out taking photos of my neighors, #1 I have a lot of awesome neighbors all of whom are apparently good looking and #2 Apparently I need a yard flag, preferably one with our initials! In the end we raised enough for 110 meals to feed our neighbors in need. Check out the gallery below and if you can donate!
